Trend alerts & Insights
Trends answer "what's changed?" without you going looking. Cash Runway runs statistical tests across your KPIs on a schedule and surfaces the ones moving in a way that matters — either as trend alerts on the tile, or as one of the Top-3 insights at the top of the dashboard.
Any paid plan
Trend alerts and the Insights panel are part of the app — available on any paid plan (Pocket and up). On the Free plan, read your data through the agentic API instead.
Coming in the Cash Runway launch
This guide describes what the Trends module will do at launch. The underlying engine is scheduled for Phase 7 of the build; you will see the Trends tab and Insights panel activate once that phase is released.
What "trend" means here
For each tracked metric (revenue, expense, burn, AR, runway, etc.), Cash Runway computes:
- Slope — the linear regression slope over a configurable window (default: 12 weeks).
- p-value — how likely the slope is real vs. noise.
- Period-over-period change — this 4-week window vs. the previous 4-week window.
- Z-score — how extreme the latest value is relative to its history.
A metric is flagged as trending when it passes significance thresholds (p < 0.05 by default) and the change is large enough to matter (configurable).
The Insights panel
At the top of the dashboard, the Insights panel shows up to three alerts, ranked by business impact. Examples of what you'd see:
- "Revenue is trending down — 12-week slope is −$2.1k/week (p = 0.01)."
- "Software costs are up 38% period-over-period, driven by Acme SaaS."
- "AR over 60 days grew from 5% to 14% of total AR in the last 8 weeks."
Each insight has a Dig in button that takes you to the underlying view (the trend chart, the AR aging table, the specific category drilldown).
Sparklines and delta chips
Every KPI tile gets a small sparkline showing the last 12 weeks of values, plus a delta chip — a coloured pill showing the period-over-period change. Red when the movement is bad (e.g. burn up, runway down), green when good.
The Trends tab
Click Trends in the main nav to open the dedicated tab, which lets you:
- Pick any metric from the list on the left.
- Choose a window — 4, 12, or 26 weeks.
- Choose a comparison — period-over-period, same-period-last-year, or none.
- See the full chart with the regression line overlaid and the p-value reported.
This is the view to land on when you want to investigate a trend alert in detail, or just poke around to see what your numbers are doing.
Dismissing an alert
If a trend alert isn't useful (you already knew about it, or it's noise from a one-off), click the × on the alert. Dismissed alerts won't reappear for that metric until the underlying condition materially changes.
